Here at Broad Street Cycles, we’re pretty into this whole Cyclocross thing. While you’ll find us riding anything from track bikes, road, xc and any other mountain bikes, Cross is the one kind of riding that draws out everyone in the shop. That means there’s usually a whole bunch of us out racing every weekend and every Wednesday night. In an attempt to put some names to the spandex — so you’ll maybe know who you’re heckling by the end of the season — we’re bringing back our Rider Profiles: CX Edition! So far we’ve talked tea varietals with Aidan, and pestered a jet-lagged Andy with questions. This week we move on from the ‘A’ names to talk snacks and syrup with BSC cyclocross racer:
Félix Burke
Félix started racing cross with us last year, and wasted no time moving up to the front end of the race. This year, he’s back on his Focus Mares CX and right back on the podium, starting the season off as part of a BSC podium sweep at Topaz Park GP. You might have noticed that that 7Mesh Rocky kit is not the standard BSC hi-vis skinsuit. Félix spends the rest of the year, and most of the fall outside Wednesdays and Race Days, riding and racing XC with the Rocky Mountain Factory Team. That skill and fitness is immediately apparent between the tape to anyone who can stay close enough to see him ride. A shoulder injury forced Félix off the bike for Ladysmith and Coal CX in Cumberland, but we’re sure he’ll be back up to speed the minute the doctors clear him to race. On top of fitness and finesse, Félix is one of the nicest guys on and off the course any time he shows up to race, so we couldn’t be happier to have him racing cross with us again this year. We caught up with Felix over the course of a couple Wednesday Night ‘Underground’ CX practices, where he answered our questions between laps:
