Now in its sixth year, the 2015 Blubber Burn Classic is scheduled for Sunday January 25th at Mount Work/Hartland. With a course normally suited to those cushy suspension bikes, the 2015 Blubber Burn Classic will prove once again to be the most technically demanding ‘cross race in existence on Vancouver Island. With a strong contingent of yelling, beverage-drinking hecklers/onlookers, expect the energy to be high, the endearing insults to be hurtling, and the riding to be stupid-technical.

Things to Know

Aim to meet at the Inventive trailhead for about 11:30am for registration and a mandatory pre-ride (there’s a map in the main parking lot at the end of Hartland Ave if need be). There should be some markings/signs for getting to the start, too.

BSC superstar Fabian Merino and others will be leading a groupride to the race from BSC. Meet at the shop for 9:50am, leave around 10:00am.

The race will consist of five laps of the 8ish minute course. Expect things to get technical. This race is about riding gnarly trails as smoothly and as fast as possible without suffering a flat, so get those PSI numbers way up there.

Cyclocross bikes are strongly encouraged. Those who race on mountain bikes shall receive a time penalty, merciless admonishment, and must ride the course as a singlespeed (mechanics will be on hand to handicap mountain bikes as needed).

Travelling here by ferry? Your race entrance is *FREE*! For everyone else, you’ll be looking at a $5 race entry fee.

Not into racing? Come anyway — a hearty heckle crew is currently being assembled, including Kevin Ehman, Jonathan Johnson, and other jerks.
