Bike Check: Renny’s Felt Edict 1
Renny’s been riding around the back woods of Victoria on a Felt Edict 1 frameset he built up this spring. The Edict 1 borrows Felt’s TeXtreme carbon layup previously only available on their top of the line FRD bikes (like the Felt AR FRD) to make this 29er frame race light, yet still strong enough to take the abuse of West Coast trails. Parker has definitely pushed the definition of ‘xc racing,’ taking his Edict 1 everywhere from Vancouver’s notorious North Shore trails to the steep and loose Pemberton trails of the Nimby 50 course.
The Edict 1 in it’s natural environment. Rockshox’s Reba fork sits up front to match the Monarch shock.
TeXtreme Carbon gives the fame that awesome checkerboard look.
Shimano Deore XT disc’s are incredibly consistent and tough, without the XTR price tag.
Felt uses flex-stay’s in place of pivots in the rear triangle. This design is one of the reasons the Edict 1 climbs crazy fast for a full suspension bike. Felt’s also build in a chain stay protector for a cleaner look than aftermarket protectors.
Full Shimano XT drivetrain, but with Blackspire’s Snaggletooth narrow wide chain ring. Blackspire ships the snaggletooth with extra aluminum spacers so that it fits easily without the chain rubbing against the crank spider.
Shimano’s Deore XT rims have withstood a fair amount of abuse and are still holding true.
Less visible details include a tapered head tube, standard 73mm threaded bottom bracket, 12 x 142mm thru axle
